Royal Palm Place Apartments

The affluent area of West Palm Beach, Florida had a need for affordable housing for senior citizens, especially veterans and their widows. The West Palm Beach Housing Authority and developer Landmark Development Corp. chose Lynx Construction Management to manage the construction of Royal Palm Place Apartments. The project was geared to working-class residents ages 62 and older, with priority to military veterans and widows of veterans killed in action.

Corwil Architects, Inc. designed the $20,955,000 new development with a mission of creating a beautiful, relaxing residential community with indoor/outdoor amenities conducive to Florida’s climate and including high-end finishes not typically found in market-rate housing. Royal Palms Place, with its lush landscaping and coastal-influenced décor, meets practically every need in this relaxing senior living environment.

The 125-unit apartment complex includes four residential buildings with garden-style apartments that surround a central plaza with benches, shaded pathways and lush, tropical landscaping. On-site parking, a palm-tree-lined perimeter, and outdoor hallways that take advantage of Florida’s attractive weather are also incorporated. Construction was completed in 14 months.

The modern residential complex includes two one-story buildings, one three-story building and one four-story building, all with reinforced construction to meet Florida’s stringent hurricane building codes. There are 75 one-bedroom and 50 two-bedroom units with a contemporary design, high-end finishes and energy-efficient appliances. Because the property is geared to senior citizens, materials were selected for longevity and low maintenance.

The crown jewel of the development is a cosmopolitan clubhouse, an airy, welcoming recreation center meant to bring residents together as a needed social outlet. With sleek, coastal-influenced décor in a light-filled, high-ceilinged space, the clubhouse includes a food preparation area, restrooms, and small seating areas that can be regrouped to accommodate large or small gatherings. Avant-garde lighting and art accentuate the space and floor-to-ceiling windows look over the plaza, which can be incorporated into the indoor/outdoor gatherings so popular in the Sunshine State. 

Adjacent to the clubhouse is a state-of-the-art fitness center with expansive windows also overlooking the plaza and green. A business center, computer room, administrative offices and support services also are part of the development.
