Ridgewood Music Studios

Ridgewood Music Studios of Queens, New York, is a 20,750-square-foot renovation of a 1960s warehouse building for use by start-up TAMI (tech, advertising, media and information) companies.

The infill building was constructed on a decommissioned street right-of-way on the border between the NYC Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. This conversion was one of many current projects built to suit the ever-expanding community of Brooklyn’s creative class. The completed building is attractive to a robust rental tenant market of digital-media musicians seeking like-minded, creative communities.

Cost-effective design provides tenant spaces located on the second floor that are sized to an attractive price-point. The building’s long, narrow floor plan is divided into two double-loaded corridors: one in Brooklyn and one in Queens.

Because creating community is an important project goal, open common areas are provided at the front, middle, and rear of the floor. These areas are flexible spaces where people gather and hold exhibits and small events.

New skylights were installed at each of these three areas, bringing in fresh daylight and changing the mood to a more upbeat tempo. The facility is now home to musicians, digital streaming “radio,” fine arts and performing artists, and small tech groups.
