Fypon polyurethane trim products used in this Katy City Hall project were selected for their low maintenance requirements. They won’t warp, crack or split, and they are insect-, weather and moisture-resistant.
Achieving the desired look of the new Katy City Hall building, while maintaining a historic aesthetic, required thoughtful selections of molding and trim.
The Fypon team was brought in to conduct a take-off and estimate, including drawing in the product on the plans. With a wide variety of molding and accessories to choose from, the team pulled several samples and stock products to show, and eventually created the custom products for this job.
Custom crown molding, gable molding, fascia, and cornices were specially made for the project and can be seen most prominently on the clock tower. Almost 1,500 feet of Fypon molding was used on the exterior of the building – including 637 feet of custom-made gable molding and 637 feet of crown molding.
“With the amount of molding being used, we had to work directly with the general contractor during construction to provide support during installation,” said Chad Gleckler, Fypon regional manager.
Even more impressive than the flat trim moldings used on the clock tower are the two build-up configurations 36" and 65" tall that surround the building as an extension of the soffit. The team also used almost 400 Fypon dentil blocks to accent and finish off the exterior of the building.
Fypon was chosen as a cost-effective solution for the intricate moldings and details for the project. Fypon’s exterior detailing is what gives Katy City Hall the historic aesthetic
