A recently completed project, an interior renovation of a charming, 100- plus year-old home, is just one of several successful projects completed by Denson.

“I love seeing a really messed up house and making it beautiful again with a little (or a lot, LOL) love and care”, relates Denson. “I especially like kitchens and bathrooms but working with clients on full residential renovations is very rewarding.”

When the owner of the brick colonial approached Denson for a complete interior renovation, Denson was all in. The home’s interior needed to be completely gutted and the exterior’s windows, back porch, and doors needed to be addressed. The renovation of the four-bedroom, one-bath home began in July 2019 and, as with all old houses, on each phase Denson had to deal with none of the walls being plumb or level. “You can only do so much to the existing walls and floors before needing to rebuild the house.”

New electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling was installed, along with new drywall and insulation. The new drywall was primed and painted, and new trim was installed around the windows, doors and along the floor.

“We redesigned the bathroom, reversing the shower into a closet for the bedroom backing up to the bathroom, and added a new tub, toilet, vanity, tile, and exhaust fans to the bathroom. By reversing the shower to the room behind, we made the room into an actual bedroom,” relayed Denson.

The home’s original hardwood floors were repaired and refinished, bringing them back to their original beauty in the living and dining rooms, hallways, and four bedrooms. New built-ins were installed in the living and dining rooms, along with new basement stairs.

The kitchen looks modern and open, with new cabinets, granite countertops, appliances, floor tiles, backsplash, and hardware. The floors were leveled by installing sistered floor joists in the basement and Durock in the kitchen.

“Old windows are a lead magnet and needed to be replaced,” stated Denson. New windows were installed along with new exterior doors. “We also rebuilt the back porch.”

Even with delays from COVID, the transformation finished in November 2020. The homeowner couldn’t be happier with the project!
