Curved Panels Help Jet Ranch Main Hangar Facility to Stand Apart
Jet Ranch is a design-built, 82,400 square foot facility at the Carson City (Nevada) Airport. The multi-building complex features customized aircraft hangars available for lease and a main hangar that is privately held for use by the owner. In planning the 34, 214 square foot main hangar facility, the design team at Licata Hansen Associates Architecture (Reno, Nevada) wanted to create a building that would stand apart visually from the leased hangar space and would also have the ability to house larger aircraft.

How the JOC Scope of Work Process Limits Surprises on a Project’s Bottom Line

Quite a few articles describe the benefits of Job Order Contracting (JOC) for facilities owners, but few come from a different angle and discuss the actual process of developing a scope of work utilizing the JOC process and a unit price book.

BELDEN BRICK CELEBRATES 125 YEARS OF QUALITY
If you ask Brian Belden when the turning point for Belden Brick was, he'll take you all the way back to the beginning. "I believe that would have been in 1885," he says, "when Henry Belden decided to manufacture brick pavers on his farm just outside of Canton. It’s significant because Canton had no paved streets back then and this need gave his new venture a jumpstart. Of course, the addition of paved streets was of great importance to Canton, too."

Construction Cost Trends for 2010

Housing is still stagnant but may be bottoming out. The federal tax credit for first time buyers has expired and after a few months of uncertainty, the market seems to be seeking its own level, let’s wait and hope. In some key markets, housing prices are actually starting to rise. On the other hand, public construction, once the bright spot of the industry, is petering out and we are hopeful that the stimulus money allotted by congress for infrastructure will be spent soon and help stem the tide. Virtually all of the sectors of commercial construction are down, and represent a cumulative 15% decrease. After a downturn of 5-7% last year, hospitality spending has evaporated. It is down over 50% compared to last year. At publication, the total construction industry is 12-15% off of last year’s mark.

DCD Cost Guides
The DCD Building Square Foot Cost Guide

Design Cost Data™ magazine includes a Building Sq. Ft. Cost Guide in each issue. These square foot cost guides have been assembled from projects in our database, the DCD Archives™ online at DCD.COM. These guides are provided to the industry by DCD as a benchmark for future building costs.
DCD is based on the philosophy that actual buildings, when coupled with up-to-date cost indices, are the most reliable basis for future building costs. The buildings appearing in this guide reflect square foot costs that have been escalated to April 2010 and targeted to a historical location factor of 1 (escalate these projects and more online at www.d4cost.net/dcd/login).
After publication these cost guides reside at DCD.COM. Please visit DCD.COM for other sq. ft. building cost guides for LEED®, Medical, Commercial and more.
