Revu 12
The next innovative evolution from Bluebeam Software

Bluebeam® Software enables professionals to collaborate and comment on project documents in their day-to-day operations. Revu®, the company’s flagship solution, includes industry-standard and customizable markup tools, such as Clouds and Callouts, to signal issues on a drawing that keep project communication clear and concise among team members and save organizations valuable time and money.

Revu is used by top companies in the contracting, design, design-build and specialty contracting industries to reduce paper usage by more than 85%, speed up project communication by 60% and track projects 40% faster.

Revu 12 is the next step in Bluebeam’s quest to help the world’s most document-intensive industries complete projects faster and more efficiently. Revu 12 includes many new features such as measurement tool enhancements, SmartGroup™, AutoMark™ 2.0, Batch Link®, Capture, the SketchUp® Pro plug-in and expanded reporting capabilities from Bluebeam Studio™, Revu’s integrated collaboration solution.

Revu’s new measurement enhancements and SmartGroup technology contribute to a more robust takeoffs and estimations package. With measurement enhancements, a user can take one measurement and Revu will automatically calculate all other related measurements, including Wall Area. SmartGroup gives users the ability to group related markups and elements while still allowing for changes to be made to individual annotations. Group subtotals are now automatically calculated in Revu’s Markups list, which tracks all comments, and sort totals can be exported from the Markups list to CSV or XML files for easier bids and estimates.

Navigating sets of construction documents can be difficult and time-consuming. AutoMark creates page labels and bookmarks from a defined page region to organize all documents quickly. New in Revu 12, AutoMark 2.0 can create page labels and bookmarks from multiple page regions with the option to add prefixes, suffixes and symbols.

“AutoMark 2.0 has saved me tons of time with the ability to create page labels and bookmarks from multiple regions of a page so that I no longer have to manually type file names or bookmarks,” says Amy Leigh Baker, Project Coordinator, Auburn Electrical Construction Co., Inc.

Finding drawing details and linking between the individual components of a set of construction documents often requires many hours of tedious work. Revu’s OCR technology, which transforms scanned documents into text-searchable PDFs, now includes new search optimization settings to capture more details like room numbers, rotated text and callouts. Batch Link, new in Revu 12, can now be used to automatically link up entire sets of construction documents in seconds by creating unlimited hyperlinks by file name, page label or page region.

“The new Batch Link and OCR tools in Revu 12 have reduced the time of setting up drawings for projects by over 80%. We are no longer handcuffed by drawings that are not text-searchable,” reports Kris Lengieza, Director of VDC for Stiles Corporation. “On a recent project with over 2,100 sheets, it took nearly 40 hours to manually link the entire set of construction documents. On our first test project with over 1,100 sheets, we were able to OCR and Batch Link those sheets in less than 4 hours; much of that time was waiting on the computer. That resulted in over an 80% reduction in time per sheet and produced a better product at the end,” Lengieza goes on to say.

Several Revu 12 features enable project teams to resolve issues and provide feedback more quickly. Team members in the field can communicate more details using Capture, which embeds photos from a camera, tablet PC or iPad's built-in camera into markups. The SketchUp Pro plug-in creates 3D PDFs from SketchUp Pro 3D models to leverage Revu’s 3D markup and navigation functionality. And Bluebeam Studio attendees can track and respond to activity within collaboration sessions by signing up to receive Studio daily email notifications.

Larry P. Faria, P.E., Structural Discipline Group Leader for CH2M HILL, describes the new tools in Revu as extremely helpful. “Bluebeam Revu is simply the best PDF markup and editing tool for AEC professionals. Revu 12 includes powerful measurement enhancements, a new user-friendly SmartGroup feature, and improved AutoMark and Sets functions,” comments Faria. “If you’re serious about improving productivity, Bluebeam Revu needs to be in your electronic toolbox.”

“New features in Revu 12 connect the office to the field and everywhere in between,” says Kristine Hopkins, Director of Account Services for Bluebeam Software. “We know that where and how work takes place will continue to change, and we are committed to providing solutions that enable our users to do better work.”
