Pre-Engineered Building Works for Multi-Purpose Center

South Tippah School District envisioned a multi-use center that would be an integral part of the school district and the community. From the very beginning of the Programming Phase, Shafer & Associates Architects worked with the district to design a building that would fulfill the needs of the district as well as the community.

The design of the center includes a multi-purpose building with a gymnasium, locker rooms, fixed seating for 1,600 people or 2,400 people for concerts or events that utilize the 3,400 square foot wood stage, and other support areas. Worsham Brothers, Inc. of Corinth, Miss. selected a Star Pre-Engineered Building (www.starbuilding.com) for the project. The Star system that Worsham erected is a custom designed 20,311-square-foot pre-engineered building with an additional 9,682 square feet of pre-engineered lean to buildings.

“Star provides a high quality, erector friendly system and backs that up with top notch sales, management, and engineering services, “ stated Mickey Hill of Worsham Brothers, a Star builder since 1967. In addition to the pre-engineered system Worsham Builders used over 28,000 square feet of Star’s StarShield standing seam roof system. StarShield is essentially a floating roof system. Its two piece sliding clips connect the weathering surface to the structural member absorbing expansion and contraction forces resulting from seasonal temperature extremes. The full floating feature ensures structural integrity and resists thermal shock. On the exterior over 18,000 square feet of Star’s DuraRib wall system was used along with brick.

A suspended acoustical ceiling covers the entire gymnasium area following the slope of the primary pre-engineered frames (suspended about 24-inches below the bottom of the frames) benefiting the acoustical quality during concerts and speaking engagements. Breakaway goals and an overhead scoreboard are suspended from the pre-engineered structure.

Since opening, the Ripley High Event Center has been host to multiple concerts, graduation ceremonies, community events, and state basketball championships that included crowning the Ripley High School Lady Tigers state champions!
