Enhanced Online Conceptual Estimating Functionality coming to DCD.COM

Five years ago, the archives of Design Cost Data magazine were opened to DCD subscribers on DCD.COM. The archives were posted in a quick moving database to use for conceptual estimating, ‘what if’ scenarios, and more.

The database was built upon DCD’s philosophy that there is no better benchmark for future construction than the cost of an actual building targeted to a new location and new time using scientific cost escalators and regional modifiers.

DCD is no stranger to conceptual estimating software as the developer of D4COST™ in 1990. D4COST is used by thousands of construction professionals for conceptual cost estimating and data archiving.

Over the past several years DCD has conducted many subscriber surveys and has learned that while DCD subscribers liked the functionality of the database they wanted it to do more. They wanted the ability to customize the projects in the archives plus wanted the ability to save a project to work on at a later date in addition to other functionality.

The requests patterned the functionality of D4COST, and the decision was made by DCD to merge some of the functionality of D4COST software into the database holding the DCD archives on DCD.COM.

A subscription to DCD is and always has been a very important tool to the industry. And starting March 1, 2009 a DCD subscription will become even more valuable. Beginning in March there will be two levels of subscriptions for DCD – Silver and Gold. Each subscription level will continue to receive DCD in the mail plus enjoy enhanced online cost estimating features.

Each level of a DCD subscription will include access to the DCD archives and the cost modeling ability subscribers now enjoy. In addition, both Silver and Gold subscribers will have the ability to customize a project a bit more by changing the square footage of any project. Those subscribers choosing the next subscription level will have access and the ability to:

1. A Gold DCD Subscription will enjoy all the benefits of a Silver subscription plus have access to over 500 regional modifiers and cost escalators through 2014 to customize a project to their bid date and location. Plus, a Gold subscriber will now have the ability to add, delete or change any of the project divisions.

2. Many of the projects in the archives of DCD magazine have line after line of division detail that is not printed in DCD. This expanded detail will now be available to any Gold DCD subscriber.

3. All Gold DCD subscribers will also have their own ‘Sandbox’. Gold subscribers can work on a project, customize it, and place it their Sandbox for later use. The project will remain there for later use or until a new project is saved.

The new functionality on DCD.COM will debut March 1, 2009. All current DCD subscribers will automatically receive DCD Silver Subscriber status starting March 1. DCD is offering a special Pre-Publication to all current subscribers to ‘upgrade’ their current subscription to Gold status when the new website debuts. A special Pre-Publication offer is also available to new subscribers through March 1, 2009. Subscribers can go to http://www.dcd.com/subscribe.html for more information.

Published since 1958, Design Cost Data magazine is the only industry publication for actual building costs – not hypothetical or industry averages. The move to integrate some of the important functionality of D4COST Software onto DCD.COM for use by its subscribers continues DCD’s role as a valuable and important industry cost resource.
