Auld & White Constructors completed the construction of Fire Station #40
as a design-build project along with Dasher Hurst Architects. The
contract agreement with the City of Jacksonville was to construct a new
two-story, free-standing Fire Station, consisting of structural steel,
poured concrete, a composite deck 2nd floor, a bar joist and metal deck
roof structure, and a 12-inch concrete tilt-panel wall system, designed
to withstand 150 mph winds at 3 second gusts and the wave action created
by a 14-foot storm surge. This unique building faces the beautiful St.
Johns River and is located off of Heckscher Drive in Jacksonville, Fla.
This land and marine based facility is anticipating LEED certification,
and is used as a post storm operations/search and rescue center. Auld &
White received a 2012 Excellence in Construction (Eagle) Award from the
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) First Coast Chapter. The
architect received a Merit Award from the American Institute of
Architects (AIA) Jacksonville Chapter.
