Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers found a home in Northern Kentucky by way of
visits between father and daughter during college years. While spending
time with his daughter off at school in another state, Kevin Molony was
introduced to Mellow Mushroom.
The iconic brand was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974 and has been
perfecting the pizza craft ever since. Mellow stores are unique in every
location and focus on the highest quality food and ingredients produced
and served in a creative environment. These factors create an ambiance
that keeps the friends of Mellow Mushroom coming back for more.
Mr. Molony visited several locations to gain a good understanding of the
atmosphere and the unique style of restauranteering involved. He and a
few friends made the next step and purchased a franchise to develop a
store in Wilder, Kentucky. Wilder is a growing northern Kentucky suburb
just a few minutes south of Cincinnati, Ohio.
A site was chosen and the process was underway. Kevin selected a design
team including Pate Design Group, Z-Space, Trillium Structures,
Lastinger Associates, Granade Engineering and Land Consultants. The
Contractor was Ashley Construction, who is based out of Edgewood, Ky.
The building is a steel frame with stone base, masonry veneer, and EIFS
accents including custom artwork and dimensional graphics. A parapet
roof conceals roof top mechanicals. The rear screen porch evolved into
an indoor/outdoor room for more than just seasonal use. Through much
collaboration and communication, the team developed a concept to satisfy
a list of project requirements that resulted in a store that is both
imaginative and functional. This Mellow Mushroom includes a dining room,
bar, team/group room, terrace dining, patio dining, retail area and a
commercial kitchen. These various areas provide settings for families,
groups, viewing parties and live entertainment.
The site location created an opportunity to afford views of the
restaurant from the surrounding interstate. Design responses included a
glass entry tower and custom awning that catches your eye both day and
night. The interiors boast numerous elements of original two and three
dimensional art. There was much attention given to these design features
that create unique elements resulting in an entertainment rich
Through the vision of Mr. Molony and friends, Wilder has a new
destination dining environment that will serve the community with great
food in a fun atmosphere for years to come.
