Hurricane Ivan, a Category 3 storm caused an estimated $18 billion in
damage to the United States when it made landfall in 2004. Its
destruction included two community centers, The Sanders Beach Community
Center and the Corinne Jones Community Center in Pensacola, Florida.
The community made the decision to replace the two centers with one new
beautiful center. Quina Grundhoefer Architects, P.A. established in
1984, was selected to design the new Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones
Community Center to replace the centers that had been destroyed.
Completed in August 2009 the architect designed the new facility around
its location to the water. Sitting only 100 feet from the water’s edge
of Pensacola Bay, the new center offers visitors spectacular views from
both outdoor and indoor spaces. The new 350-seat Ballroom and its
three-sided balcony face the water making it a sought out location for
The new 17,000-square-foot facility offers new and exciting spaces in
addition to the ballroom for the community with areas including a
multi-purpose room, a game room, a TV room, a fitness room, a exercise
room, a small library and computer room and a kitchen.
The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department hosted a Grand
Opening to the new Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Community Center on
September 18, 2009. The new center is now home to many quality
recreation programs, classes and events for the citizens of Pensacola.
