The Pinnacle at Jackson Place is a new, 9-story building situated on a
prominent downtown corner in Jackson, Mississippi. The building, which
contains predominately office space, is composed of a 2-story
limestone-clad base with a glass curtainwall tower above that pulls away
from the street in order to efficiently address the program needs of the
upper-floor tenants. The roof of the limestone base serves as a terrace
for the second-floor occupants, affording fantastic views up and down
Capitol Street. A sleek, metal-clad wing caps off the southern facade.
The project was conceived as a part of an overall master plan for the
entire block including a renovated public parking structure (with
ground-floor retail), a public garden and housing. The building's retail
is accessed along Capitol Street, but the main entrance to the
building's 2-story lobby is off of the new corner plaza. Responding to
the angled geometry of the neighboring One Jackson Place, the plaza and
its green space become an urban living room for the pedestrians as well
as the building's occupants. An enclosed arcade, which links parking to
the Pinnacle and One Jackson Place, helps to define the northern edge of
the new public garden. Intended to be quieter and lusher than the plaza,
the garden is flanked by retail and a large steel trellis to the west
and an elevated private terrace to the east.
The project has been submitted for LEED Gold certification and uses
several techniques to increase user comfort and reduce energy costs.
High efficiency mechanical systems, a reflective roof, low flow plumbing
fixtures, a recycling center and light sensors throughout the building
are just some of the other strategies employed. The building's central
downtown location puts its occupants just blocks away from hotels,
museums, restaurants, entertainment venues, a public park and a variety
of retail services.
