The Richland County Jail in Mansfield, Ohio is an addition to the
existing Richland County Courthouse. A pedestrian bridge to the existing
Richland County Courthouse connects the new two-story,
81,200-square-foot jail. The jail designed by MKC Associates, Inc. in
cooperation with PSA-Dewberry as Associate Architect, houses prisoners
from Richland County and the City of Mansfield and was completed in June
2008.
The new 260-bed facility includes housing for eight maximum security
ranges with 50 cells with 50 beds one per cell. The facility also
includes two minimum security ranges with 18 cells with 36 beds two per
cell along with 10 Dormitory ranges with 174 beds.
Of the 260 total beds, 206 beds are allocated for male inmates and 54
beds are for female inmates. The facility also features two medical
isolation cells, two protective custody cells and two cells for
juveniles.
The facility is equipped with a full-service, state-of-the-art kitchen
capable of producing 1,000 meals per day, including meals for the
Community Alternative Jail facility and the County’s Juvenile Attention
facility.
The facility also features state-of-the-art video visitation equipment,
thereby eliminating contact visits. Inmates are seated in front of a
video monitor inside of their designated housing unit, which prevents
unwanted movement by the Inmates. Reducing the movement by Inmates
results in reduced staffing costs and increases the overall security to
the facility.
