The Grandville Police & Court Facility was a phased project that required keeping the Court and Police Department in full and complete operation during the entire project. The work consisted of removing the existing Firebarn and the upper portion of part of the building, and erecting a new addition and shell. This phase had to be completed during the winter. Both departments were then moved into the new area while the balance of the building was demolished to the concrete slab and a new masonry/metal stud building was erected and finished. At this time, the Police Department could be moved into their new quarters, leaving the Court to occupy their space from Phase One.
Special problems included keeping the 911 number and other communication lines in operation at all times. The Court and Police Dispatch were able to stay undisturbed in Phase One and then moved into the new quarters. The Police Department was moved into part of the Court area while their new area was being built, and then were moved into the new area upon completion. The parking lot was also rebuilt and relocated while providing maximum parking and building access at all times.
