Adams County Sheriff's Department had outgrown their existing facilities and envisioned a new attractive building to house the Sheriff's Substation and several other county agencies. DLR Group of Colorado Springs, Colorado was selected to provide the planning/design and construction services for the new facility. The initial concepts included the County Sheriff's Substation to accommodate 160 personnel, 13,000 square feet for Tri-County Health Services, the Department of Motor Vehicles, Probation and Emergency Preparedness.
The DLR Group held in-depth workshops with each of the county offices that would occupy the facility to determine space adjacencies and layouts required for proper functioning of the building. The issues addressed included surrounding site features; public and secured parking areas; utilities; traffic development on and surrounding the site; site adjacency issues; adjacency issues of each of the programmed spaces with the facility; emergency 911 integration; and development of secured and public areas within the facility.
The new Adams County Service Center located in Commerce City, Colo. was developed as a two building, two-level structure on the existing county-owned site. The Service Center includes a Records Department; Community Service Organization; Supervised Release Program; Crime Lab; Evidence Storage Facilities; Booking and Temporary Holding (5 cells) Facilities; SWAT Team Unit; Specialized Vehicle Storage; Patrol Division; Detective Division; Traffic Division; 150-seat Community Auditorium; and a Gymnasium/Physical Training Facility. The Canine/Bomb Squad Unit occupies a separate one-floor, 2,500-square-foot structure.
Completed in June 2002, the new Adams County Service Center is a dynamic civic resource that the residents of Commerce City, Colorado can be proud of.
