The First Baptist Church of Raytown is the relocation of an existing well-established congregation from the church facility that they had long outgrown. The 25-acre site was purchased some years back with the eventual relocation in mind. The new site is located along a state highway that is also a major trafficway within the city of Raytown, Missouri.

It was the church's desire to master plan the project and to build it out in phases. Phase I contains the main worship center building with the sanctuary, classrooms, nursery, and other ancillary spaces and was placed on the site to address the access off the state highway. A circular drive entrance allows convenient site circulation. The topography provided the opportunity to design building access from grade at two levels. The architectural character is a result of the church's desire for a traditional style with contemporary planning concepts. Brick and cast stone were utilized to acheive the desired look. Exterior insulation finish system (EIFS)with design details completed the "contemporary colonial" character wanted by the church. The sanctuary plan was laid out in fan design in order to bring more seating including the balcony closer to the pulpit. The balcony connects on the sides to the main level to allow the church members in the balcony to have access to the pulpit. Theatrical lighting in the sanctuary is designed to accommodate church pageants and other theatrical and musical performances. A light booth and sound booth are located in the balcony for equipment control. Custom designed stained glass panels above the choir loft and baptistry are retractable to reveal a large screen used for video presentations. Stained glass windows from the old existing church were incorporated into three large stained windows in the lobby. A wide corridor leads off the two-story lobby and surrounds the sanctuary providing easy access to other areas of the church. 

Phase II, a three-story education building, began during the construction of Phase I. In accordance with the master plan, the education building was located adjacent to the main building for direct access and common use of a primary stairway. The church wanted the ability to use the education building independently from the worship center so security measures were designed for this to occur. The location of dispersed parking areas allows direct access to the education building without the need to enter the main building. The Phase II appearance compliments Phase I with the use of the same materials.
