  Thermomass Delivers Energy Efficient Building
to Party Time Plus

Party Time Plus is the largest exclusive party rental company in Montana. As a full service company, Party Time Plus provides everything for weddings, picnics, parties, trade shows or any special event in Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas. As a growing business, they needed a new home that would serve their clients and their needs. AT Architecture of Billings delivered a new home that not only was attractive but efficient, highly insulated and move-in ready in a short time.

Alex Tommerup of AT Architecture, Billings, Mont. utilized an insulation system from Thermomass in a tilt-up application to accomplish several of his goals for this project. “When we use Thermomass, buildings are cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. It is also quiet and resistant to damage from equipment, which is a plus for Party Time Plus, who handles large pieces of equipment for rental. Thermomass walls are also resistant to damage from high moisture which makes it great for use in wash bays. And it goes up fast!”

System NC from Thermomass was utilized on this project to create a non-composite sandwich wall. The system is comprised of fabricated rigid insulation and high-strength, non-conductive, fiber-composite connectors or fasteners to tie the sandwich together. When using tilt-up concrete, panels are formed directly on the slab. Reinforcing for the exterior wythe of concrete is then installed, followed by the placement of concrete. The pre-fabricated insulation and connectors are then installed on the wet concrete. Once set, the interior layer of reinforcing is installed along with embeds and lifting devices followed by interior concrete placement. Once cured, the forms are removed, bracing is installed and the crane lifts the panels into place.

Thermomass supplies the essential roadmap for installation with each piece of insulation precisely cut to match panel drawings provided by the client. This is done to ensure edge-to-edge insulation coverage and confirm the correct spacing and location of the connectors. Two inches of insulation is standard for an ambient temperature facility such as Party Time Plus, but systems are available which provide R-values ranging from R-10 to R-50, depending on the location and type of building. Also, for this location and building type, the average cost per square foot of net panel area, including all materials, finished and erected is approximately $12.

Jerry W. Jones, President of Jones Construction, in Billings, MT constructed the tilt-up sandwich walls for Party Time Plus, and he has high praise for Thermomass. “We definitely like working with Thermomass sandwich panel insulation systems. We have tried other systems in the past that are inferior from a performance and quality standpoint. Thermomass has an excellent team that assists with design, troubleshooting, problem solving, and timely deliveries that make our projects run very smoothly.”

Jones also said, “Thermomass’ engineering staff completes a full review of our panel layouts and openings to assist us with avoiding any potential problems. They then pre-cut all of the insulation sheets and have them organized and ready for immediate installation when it arrives on the jobsite.”

Thermomass insulation systems have been specified in over 100 million square feet of building panels in all 50 states and around the world since 1980. It has been used on many types of structures including refrigerated and frozen food building facilities, dry storage warehouses, federal, state and local correctional facilities, schools, retail and data centers, and great facilities like Party Time Plus and several for Jones Construction.

“I find the people at Thermomass extremely helpful to work with,” said Tommerup. “We will continue to use Thermomass. In the past two years we have used Thermomass on 2 office/shop projects. Thermomass and Precast or Tilt-Up Concrete gives us an advantage in our climate”. Jones agrees, “The Thermomass representatives are very responsive in all departments. The sales team notifies us of potential projects in our region and assists us in promoting and marketing the system. The design, administration, and engineering staff are also very responsive and available to us on short notice.”
