Simpson Strong-Tie Introduces New Strong-Drive® SDW Screws and Expanded Strong
Frame™ Ordinary Moment Frame Sizes and Software
For
more than 50 years, Simpson Strong-Tie has focused on creating structural
products that help people build safer and stronger homes and buildings.
Considered a leader in structural systems research and testing, Simpson
Strong-Tie® products are recognized for helping structures resist high winds,
hurricanes and seismic forces. The company is one of the largest manufacturers
of connectors, fasteners, fastening systems, anchors and lateral-force resisting
systems in the world.
Simpson Strong-Tie continues their tradition with the launch of a new series of
structural wood screws for fastening multi-ply truss and engineered-wood
assemblies. The new Strong-Drive® SDW screws install from one side, firmly
cinching piles together while eliminating the need to flip heavy girders.
The bold thread design of the SDW allows installers to fasten 2, 3 and 4-ply
trusses or 1 ¾-inch engineered lumber from one side, saving time. Unlike typical
hex-style screws, the SDW features a large, flush head that makes applying
drywall to structural composite lumber much simpler since the head doesn’t
protrude from the girder. The flush head also causes less interference when
handling trusses and installing connectors. In addition, the screw’s deep head
recess reduces bit pop-out, making installation faster and easier while the high
shear strength of the SDW cuts down the number of fasteners required, reducing
material and labor cost.
The Strong-Drive SDW screw series is offered in eight lengths from
2 7/8 to 6 ¾ inches. For additional information, visit www.strongtie.com/fasten.
In
April, Simpson Strong-Tie is enhancing its Strong Frame™ ordinary moment frame (OMF)
product line with new frame sizes and software as well as an updated catalog.
With the addition of 172 frame configurations, designers will have a total of
368 frames to choose from. The additional frame configurations are a result of a
new 16-ft. tall column and 14-, 18- and 20-foot wide beams. Simpson Strong-Tie
also is launching a made-to-order Strong Frame OMF program to quickly deliver
custom frames using their current plate girder geometries. Clear opening frame
sizes are available in widths 6-ft 0-in. to 20-ft 4-in. and heights 6-ft 0-in to
19-ft 10 ½-in. There is an extended lead time of four to six weeks for
custom-size, non-catalog components.
To help designers with specification, Simpson Strong-Tie has created a new
Strong Frame™ OMF Selector Software. By simply inputting loads, height, width
and available space for columns, the program will create a list of available
frames, ranked according to relative price, and provide anchorage options.
All of the new frame sizes will be featured in a new Strong Frame catalog
(C-SF10). Product information, the catalog and the new software will be
available in April at www.strongtie.com/strongframe.
