Posture-Correct Chairs Make Students Comfortable and Collaboration Possible
Smith System’s Plato™ Seating features European lumbar support, allowing comfortable forward and sideways seating for individual and project-based group learning

Students spend hundreds of hours sitting during the average school year, making supportive seating critical for comfort, concentration and diverse lesson plans. Recognizing the positive effects of good posture on comfort and productivity, Smith System has introduced the Plato Seating line that promotes correct posture while allowing for easy movement and collaboration while seated.

Designed to meet European requirements for ergonomics, Plato Seating features high lumbar support to reinforce the curvature of the spine and help students sit up straight without forcing an inflexible position. This support combined with Plato Seating’s large, flat seat pan enables students to rotate effortlessly and sit comfortably forward or sideways when working alone or with others.

“Ergonomic classroom furniture is more than an adjustable desk or a flexible chair; it’s student furniture that fits and supports the body while enabling its myriad movements and activities,” says Bill Risdall, vice president of marketing for Smith System. “The Plato Seating line provides the right amount of rigidity to brace the back without getting in the way of movement, ensuring furniture comfortably enhances – and doesn’t hinder – individual work, project-based learning, group activities, and everything in between.”

Plato Seating also features a cutout in the chair back, which provides ventilation to keep backs cool, and can be used as a handhold for portability.

Priced to fit school district budgets, Plato Seating comes in numerous configurations, including Stack Chair, Stool, Rhombus Arm Chair, P-Tablet Arm Chair, Adjustable Chair and Adjustable Stool, each available in 17 designer colors. To assure the look of comfort isn’t misleading, all Plato Seating options are available in three shell sizes (18” A Shell, 16” B+ Shell, 14” B Shell), each tailored to meet varying body measurements.
